What Kindergartens need to know..

I think that is it really an accomplishment that the state came out with standards for kindergarteners. I think this will help the teachers to know what to teach and how to teach it. It will be much easier to have lesson plans be made. I think standards are good for teachers because it allows them to have an agenda and to build the child's knowledge for specific criteria. I think that it is really cool how they also came out with the guide to help the teachers explain the skills and how to teach it because it is a new system and teachers may not be used to it. I think that standards allow their to be more options because it lets you know what you have to teach but it allows you to incorporate other skills into those lessons.

I agree 100%. I think it is wondeful that the state provided these benchmarks for the teachers to help their students meet. Also, it think its extremely cool that they created a guide book for the teachers. I honestly would like to see it, or at least get a hold of a copy when I become a teacher. I also believe that it was a good idea for Illinios to begin with kindergarten then work their way up, for creating these benchmarks. So, I agree with you that creating these standards was awesome of Illinois to do!

I think you make some great points in your comment, but i do not think having standards is always the right way to go about teaching chidren. Teachers need there space to add their own ideas and thoughts into the curriculum. I do think some of the benchmarks that teachers have to have their children meet is realistic and good for the children. On the other hand, i do think it is neat that they explain in a guide how to teach it since it is a new system. This article makes me wonder if this system is the right system for kindergarten students.
